Meet Our Team

Dr Hanneke Van Aartsen BVSc

Hanneke qualified in 1994 in South Africa and after working in South Africa for 3 years, moved to the UK where she worked full time in small animal practice for 8 years.

Hanneke came to Australia in 2005 and has lived (and worked) in Sydney, Melbourne and now Brisbane. She joined Wellpets in February 2014 as a part-time vet whilst studying a degree in (human) Sonography.

Hanneke is married with two people kids (Maylia and Karmi) and 4 fur kids - Teddy, the not-so-brave Cavalier, Butterball, the fierce and independant cat and Nibbles and Chubby, two very cute guinea pigs! She enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine but her greatest joy and the thing that keeps her breathing, is slobbery kisses and cuddles from her patients :)

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Mel joined us in 2010. She has been a Vet Nurse since 2002 and gained her Certificate 4 in Vet Nursing in 2009.

She has been able to combine her love of animals and passion for travel successfully and has enjoyed working in vet practices in remote parts of Australia.

She is now happy to call the Moreton Bay Region home and has recently purchased a home on the Redcliffe peninsula. She lives with her fiance, Luke, children Maia (My-a) and Lewis.

Mel is back helping us out in management for a few days each week after the birth of her children.

Rachael (on maternity leave)

Qualified Veterinary Nurse

Rachael joined our team as a qualified Veterinary Nurse in 2011. She has recently relocated to the region after graduating from a Bachelor of Science majoring in Zoology at the University of New England.

Rachael completed her Certificate 4 in Vet Nursing in 2004 and has worked in a mixed animal practice in rural NSW since 2001.

Rachael has enjoyed meeting members of the community and has found everyone to be friendly and welcoming. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her husband, baby son, daughter and her Siamese cross 'Vedder'.

Rachael is soon to be on maternity leave for baby number 2 and we hope to see her back in early 2019.

Qualified Veterinary Technician

Jess joined our team in April 2015 after working a few years at an emergency centre and various small animal clinics.  She graduated from the University of Queensland in 2014, with a Bachelor of Applied Science – majoring in Veterinary Technology.  Since joining our team she has also completed her Certificate IV in veterinary nursing.

Jess has a strong love for all small animals, but everyone knows her heart will always belong to working breed dogs. Especially Cattle dogs!  In her spare time she loves working on her car and entertaining her pocket rocket, muffin making cattle dog, Azura.

Renee joined our team in July 2010, as a trainee vet nurse and receptionist. She has a deep love for animals and prior to working for Anzac Avenue Veterinary Surgery, spent two years volunteering at the Peninsula Animal Aid.

In her spare time, she loves spending time with her own pets.

Renee one day hopes to be a fully qualified vet nurse and wildlife carer.
